S&K Prevention, Inc. is a Comprehensive Training Academy licensed by the New York State Department of Criminal Justice Services.

We offer training in all aspects of security to include Armed Security. We also offer many customized security training courses geared towards the customer and individual needs to include Physical Security Assessments. We offer training packages to assist persons that are currently working and desire a career change.

Everyone’s security needs are different and therefore every class we teach is unique, in that it pertains to the issues the security professional will face in his or her work environment.

NRA certified courses are offered at both the student and instructor level. Some of the classes include, but are not limited to, home safety, basic firearms, personal protection in and out of the home, and Range Safety Officer (see NRA Training page). We teach children to stay away from guns through the Eddy Eagle Program.

For advanced students, we have several Tactical Training courses. Additionally, we provide training in the proper and safe use of Mace and other pepper sprays, tasers, and stun lights.

S&K Prevention, Inc. provides courses for the retired law enforcement community that includes H.R. 218.

Our instructors have combined backgrounds including 60 years of law enforcement, 30 years of security, 20 years of emergency management, and 25 years as investigators.

S&K Prevention, Inc. works closely with private and national companies, and agencies. Some of these include: The NRA, USCCA, International Association of Arson Investigators, Mace Inc., New York State Division of Criminal Justice, and the Bureau of Municipal Police.

Our goal is to educate the public and private sector on security operations and the safe handling of firearms.

David Zon

David Zon started his career with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation where he served as a special agent for 9 years assigned to the Macon Regional Drug Office, whose primary role was to provide Undercover Support for narcotics investigations.   David was hired on with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (D.E.A.) and served for 30 years in multiple domestic and foreign operation offices.  In 2024, David retired from D.E.A. as the Associate Special Agent in Charge of the New York Division. 

David holds multiple National Rifle Association (NRA) Instructor Certifications which include Range Safety Officer, and Pistol/Rifle/Shotgun Instructor. Through this 30 year career with DEA, David obtained certifications as an instructor of the following disciplines; Firearms Instructor, Tactical Instructor, Raids Instructor, Defensive Tactics Instructor, Use of Force Instructor, PT Tasking Instructor, and Active Shooter Instructor.  David has received training in Law Enforcement Lifesaving, Dignitary Protection, International Surveillance Tech Ops, and Long-Range Precision Shooting.  David is New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services certified as in Instructor Development as well as a certified Firearms Instructor.  David is also a fluent Spanish Speaker. 


Steven Borbee

Steven Borbee is a retired New York State Police Trooper with an extensive background in military service, law enforcement, and firearms training. He is a former U.S. Air Force Combat Controller and has served as a firearms instructor since 1998. Steven spent 12 years as a .308 rifleman and has trained law enforcement personnel as an instructor for the New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services (DHSES).

In addition to his law enforcement career, Steven has worked as an armed guard since 2014 and serves as an Armed Guard Instructor. He is also an FAA-certified flight instructor, a role he has held since 2019. His diverse experience reflects a lifelong commitment to safety, precision, and professional instruction.


Michael Adams

Michael Adams is a proud U.S. Navy Veteran with many years of firearms instruction.  Michael has lifelong memberships with the National Rifle Association (NRA) , S.C.O.P.E.Second Amendment Foundation, as well as the SASS.  Michael is a member of NYSRPA, IDPA, USPSA, and a graduate of both Front Sight and MAG 40 academies.  Previously, Michael was the lead instructor for the Saratoga County Advanced pistol program at Kayaderossas Fish and Game club.  Michael possesses certification with the NRA in Instructor in Chief range Officer, Home Firearms Safety, Pistol and Rifle, and Personal Protection In and Outside the Home. Michael also is a certified USCCA Instructor in the disciplines of Conceal Carry and Home Defense, Women’s Handgun and Self Defense, Countering the Mass Shooter Event, Children’s Firearms and Safety, Range Safety Officer, and Defensive Shooting Fundamentals I &II.  Michael also holds a New York State Armed Guard License.  


Briana M Krzykowski

I am the S&K administrative and social media coordinator, RSO, and am currently in instructional school to further my education. I love spending time with both my family and my dogs. I also love spending time camping and hunting/fishing with my family. I started hunting and fishing with my dad at the young age of 2. I grew up with a love for firearms and firearm safety. I love helping others with their continuous education to respect firearm laws and their rights to them. I take pride in smart training and real world readiness.


John Costello

John Costello has a vast wealth of knowledge and experience in the firearms instructional field drawing on his lengthy careers in the military, law enforcement, and private security sectors.

John received initial firearms experience while serving in the US Army 1st air cavalry division.

After leaving the army, John received a degree in criminal justice then proceeded to work for various agencies including Amtrak and Citizens Armored Car Transport before receiving a commission to the Erie County Sheriff’s Department.

John received training in several areas of law enforcement including: lethal/less lethal weapons, interview and interrogation methods, surveillance, self defense, first aid/CPR and AED.

In addition to multiple firearms instruction certifications including: NRA pistol, CRSO, concealed carry, personal protection inside/outside the home, John also has an extensive background in the martial arts.

John has been a member of the S&K team for 11 years providing hands-on classroom and range instruction.


Michael McGowan

Michael McGowan is a lifelong firearms enthusiast.

Michael has served as a correctional officer in both NY state and VT state, where he attended regular training exercises with the CERT team. He eventually turned to the private sector, where he worked as a security and surveillance official for an upscale luxury resort on Lake George.

More recently, Michael spent 8 years in the executive protection field, providing security services for a high-profile public figure in Saratoga Springs while pursuing studies to complete his firearms instruction credentials.

Michael holds multiple certifications, including NRA rifle, pistol, and shotgun instructor, as well as range safety officer and Glock factory armorer.

In addition to these credentials, Michael has also attended several other NRA training classes and is a proud lifetime NRA member.

Michael is currently a member of the armed response team on a federally designated critical energy infrastructure site, where he has received first aid, AED, and AVIRT (active shooter/emergency response) qualifications.


Eugene Maye

Eugene is a proud U.S Navy veteran and a seasoned Security Professional with 14 years of experience. 

Beyond the classroom, his background includes supervising and managing security teams and coordinating security operations for small- and large-scale events in public and private settings. In his current position, he is responsible for overseeing asset protection, threat mitigation, emergency response procedures and security planning.

In addition to his vast experience in the Security field, Eugene also has a strong foundation in education and behavioral intervention. Prior to his current role, he spent over 20 years as a Therapeutic Support Specialist at the School at Northeast and also worked as a Career Technical Training Instructor with the Security MilCap Program at Glenmont Job Corps.  These experiences allowed him to develop strong skills in Therapeutic Crisis intervention and knowledge of career development for young people.

Eugene’s leadership philosophy is rooted in preparation, professionalism, and purpose.  Whether training the next generation of security professionals or overseeing many levels of security operations, he is committed to developing competent, confident, and ethical security personnel equipped for real-world challenges.
